The expertise of a motorcycle accident attorney would come in handy after a solo rider crashed his motorbike and ended up dead in  Athens, Texas. The fatal accident occurred on Thursday night, May 21.

Officers responded to the traffic wreck on State Loop 7, on reports of a motorcycle rider left unresponsive after crashing in a no-passing zone. The reports did not indicate if any other casualty resulted from the crash.

Investigators determined that the victim was traveling through the northbound lanes on State Loop 7 in a motorcycle. The rider, identified as James Van Stephenson, a 46-year-old resident of Malakoff went past a vehicle in a no-passing zone, causing him to lose control. As a result, the motorbike veered into the roadway before crashing violently, ejecting the man in the process.

Stephenson suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Emergency responders arrived a short while later and found the man already dead. The justice of the Peace Belinda Brownlow confirmed the motorcyclist’s death. Police said Stephenson was not wearing a helmet when he crashed.

The accident reports failed to disclose if drugs and alcohol contributed to the crash, or if speed was involved.

An investigation into the tragic occurrence is still in the works.

Motorcyclists should endeavor to adhere to all safety regulations when plying roadways. They should also maintain the use of protective gear like gloves, helmets and possibly, leather jackets, before hitting the road.

Victims of traffic collisions involving a motorbike can seek legal counsel from a motorcycle accident attorney.
