A car injury lawyer would come in handy after an almost-fatal crash in Effingham County, Illinois, left two teenagers seriously injured. Officers recorded the tragic incident just before noon on Saturday, May 23.

The Illinois State Police officers responded to the wreck at about 11:48 a.m., following reports of a traffic collision involving a car and a big rig. It happened in the area of Effingham County Road 1400th, and 2300th, the accident reports affirmed.

Investigating officers gathered that one of the vehicles involved was a 2007 gray Saturn, driven by a 16-year-old boy from Toledo. A nineteen-year-old teenager identified as Roddnie Deters, of Teutopolis, was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, eastbound on Effingham County Road 1400th.

The vehicle was approaching the 1400th’s intersection with 2300th, which had the red light up at the time. Police said the teenager failed to stop at the red light, but crossed the intersection unlawfully. As a result, the gray Saturn crashed violently into another vehicle, a 1999 maroon international semi-tractor trailer moving through the intersection, at the time.

The big rig had been southbound on 2300th, with 44-year-old Milton L. Oesch, behind the wheels, according to the reports.

The impact of the collision caused injuries to both teenagers traveling on the Saturn. Responding medics conveyed both teenagers to a local hospital with injuries. Deters, who suffered severe injuries, went via air ambulance, while the 16-year-old driver went by road, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities failed to reveal the condition of the big rig operator post-crash, or indicate if impairment played a role. The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone involved in an injury-crash can contact a car injury lawyer for representation.
