A young man from Bryan, Texas has been arrested in connection with the fatal crash that resulted in his girlfriend’s death.
Twenty-year-old Colten Dean Mushinski is accused of manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, accident reports indicate.
The crash happened early on Friday morning in the 2300 block of Trace Meadows Drive.
Emergency responders were called to the scene to investigate a collision involving a pedestrian and a truck.
The truck driver, Mushinski, reportedly called 911 around 2:15 a.m. to say that he ran over his girlfriend while trying to get away from an argument.
Mushinski told officers he and 19-year-old Seana Reagan Michaela Mitchell had been at a Huntsville nightclub earlier and he drank three cocktails. He said the two got into an argument while there.
According to police accident reports, the two left Huntsville around midnight and went back to College Station. Mushinksi eventually took Mitchell to her Trace Meadows home as the two continued arguing.
At some point, Mitchell reportedly climbed into the bed of the pickup before getting out and running next to the truck as Mitchell drove off.
When officers responded, they found Mushinski standing behind his truck while Mitchell was lying unconscious in the road. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.
Mushinski was initially arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxication. However, police added the manslaughter charge after determining that he drove his truck close to Mitchell in a manner that led him to strike her or drive over her, thereby causing her death.
In Texas, manslaughter is a second-degree felony that’s punishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
It is not known whether Mitchell’s family will file a wrongful death lawsuit.
