Authorities said an elderly man was killed Saturday evening in a rollover wreck in Riverside Township.
Gerald Kincaid, 94, of Lansing, died at a hospital after the crash, which was reported just before 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the Michigan State Police. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck and no other injuries were listed on car accident reports available Sunday evening.
Troopers said Kincaid was driving west on Stony Corners Road near Burkett Road at 5:57 p.m. Saturday when he approached a curve in the roadway. Kincaid lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer off the road, according to car accident reports.
The vehicle went off the road and struck an embankment, causing it to roll several times, authorities reported. Car accident reports state Kincaid, the vehicle’s only occupant, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck. Troopers did not say whether he was ejected during the incident.
Emergency medical personnel transported Kincaid via air ambulance to a hospital in Traverse City for treatment of serious injuries. However, he ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead, authorities said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Michigan State Police. Authorities have not said whether they suspect the involvement of contributing factors like intoxication, inattentive driving or excessive speed.
