Bobby Lews, Janet Lewis Injured After Crashing Into Deer In Pike County

Two Illinois residents were injured Sunday morning when their three-wheeled motorcycle crashed into a deer in Pike County, according to state authorities.

Bobby Lewis, 76, and his passenger Janet Lewis, 67, both of Jacksonville, were injured in the crash, which occurred at about 11 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 72, the Illinois State Police reported. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no additional injuries were listed on car accident reports.

Authorities said Bobby Lewis was driving the trike west on Interstate 72 near mile marker 1 at 11 a.m. Sunday when a deer ran onto the roadway. The trike struck the deer, causing Bobby Lewis and Janet Lewis to be ejected, according to car accident reports.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene. Bobby Lewis was taken to an area hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries, while Janet Lewis was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment of more serious wounds, authorities said.

Updated condition reports weren’t available Tuesday. However, the Lewis’ wounds weren’t thought to be life-threatening, troopers said. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, according to car accident reports.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. Authorities have not said whether they believe factors like intoxication, speed or inattentive driving might have contributed to the crash.
