On Wednesday, June 3rd, the Kern County Coroner’s Office disclosed that they identified the victims of a solo crash in the Bakersfield area of California. In updated reports of the car accident, they named 24-year-old Valentina Melinda Roque and 22-year-old Christina Salcedo, as the victims.
The California Highway Patrol said that the women died after the vehicle they were traveling crashed on the morning of Tuesday, June 2nd. Roque and Salcedo were heading east in an undisclosed vehicle model at the time of the accident.
Around 12:01 a.m., the women were eastbound on E. Belle Terrace east of Bunting Drive. The two were going over the speed limit and failed to apply the brake in time when they approached a right curve on the roadway. Their speed caused the vehicle to go off the road into a dirt shoulder.
The car proceeded to a dry canal, before resting on its east side. The CHP said that the women did not have their seat belts on when the crash occurred and sustained extensive fatal injuries. The investigators have not determined if intoxication played a role in the death of Roque and Salcedo, and will provide an update when they have more information.
Facts gathered from car accident reports show that it is safer to wear a seat belt when in a moving vehicle. It increases a car’s occupant’s chances of survival and helps airbags deploy to prevent head injuries.
