Police Arrest and Charge Robert Roth for Crystal Lake DUI Crash that Claimed One Life


The Crystal Lake Police Department, on Thursday, June 4th, disclosed in a news briefing that they arrested and charged the man who caused a collision in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Robert A. Roth, a 69-year-old resident of the city, is facing several charges for his role in the Tuesday, June 2nd, accident.

The CLPD said the collision took place around 4:38 p.m. with the suspect behind the wheel of a black sport utility vehicle. Roth was heading north on Route 31 near Drake Drive when he collided with a silver SUV on the same roadway. The impact caused the second vehicle to cross into the southbound lane, where it struck a motorcycle.

The male motorcyclist sustained extensive injuries, and the medics conveyed him to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry, where he was later pronounced dead. The police will release the victim’s name after locating and notifying his next-of-kin.

The CLPD charged Roth with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death, a Class Two Felony, and two counts of misdemeanor DUI. They booked the suspect into the McHenry County Jail, and he is due in court on Thursday, June 18th.
