The expertise of experienced auto accident attorneys would come to play following the death of two people in a two-vehicle crash in Livingston County, Illinois. Reports obtained from the county coroner’s office confirmed that Devonte J. Moss and Jarvis Anderson, both of Chicago, died on Sunday, June 21, from injuries suffered in an accident.
The incident took place at approximately 5 a.m. near the mile marker 212 on Interstate 55 NB, the Livingston County coroner reported. The two fatal victims were traveling in an SUV, which was involved in an accident with a semi-tractor and trailer.
Investigators determined that the 2008 Jeep Cherokee conveying two people was traveling on I-55, directly behind a moving semi-tractor and trailer. The SUV, reportedly driving at speeds exceeding that of the semi, rear-ended the big rig as they approached the construction merge lanes on the roadway.
The impact of the collision caused severe damages to the Cherokee, leaving its occupants critically injured. Illinois State Police officials reported that the SUV ended up wedged underneath the semi and went ablaze.
When emergency crews arrived, they found Moss, 28, and Anderson, 26, unresponsive. The Livingston County Chief Deputy Coroner Steven Zeller pronounced them deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the operator of the semi, identified as a 47-year-old man from Indiana, went unscathed.
The incident remains under investigation by the ISP and the LCCO.
Auto accident attorneys can help ascertain the liability of the crash by conducting an independent investigation. With sufficient claims, the victims’ families can then pursue a lawsuit in court, alleging wrongful death or personal injuries.
