Nathan Carroll Dies in Motorcycle Crash in Grundy County

On Sunday afternoon, June 28th, at about 3:15 p.m., Nathan Carroll, a 35-year-old resident of Channahon, lost his life in a motorcycle crash in Grundy County, Illinois. The Grundy County Coroner’s Office said in the accident report that the biker died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Carroll was traveling on the eastbound lane of Interstate 80 at mile marker 111 with a group of motorcycle riders. Grundy County Coroner John Callahan said in a press release that the victim lost control of his bike, causing the crash. The motorcycle then traveled 300 feet before coming to a rest. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

There is currently no information on what caused Carroll to lose control of his motorcycle, and he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The ISP and the GCCO are investigating the accident, and they will release an update once they have more information.

Motorcycle accidents often end fatally for the rider, whether it is a solo crash or auto-motorcycle collision. Safety tips for motorcyclists include wearing a helmet certified and compliant with the US Department of Transportation requirements, turning on the bike’s headlights, and riding defensively.

Avoid the center of the lane where debris and oil build-up, ride at a safe speed, avoid riding when intoxicated, and take a course to learn or reinforce riding techniques. Additionally, motor vehicle drivers should look twice for motorcycles at intersections, maintain a safe following distance, and move to a side of the lane when passing a bike.
