Two people died and another received critical injuries as a result of a high-speed crash that occurred on Friday night in East Garfield Park on Chicago’s West Side.

The victims have been identified as Lawndale resident Kenny T. Partee and Jasmine Wilson who lived in East Garfield Park.

According to police, the 24-year-old Partee was heading west in the 3100 block of West Lake Street when he hit a parked vehicle with his Jeep SUV.

The Jeep then struck a metal pillar before it stopped.

The accident happened at 9:53 p.m. and police said Partee was speeding. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said he was declared dead at the scene.

An autopsy was performed the next day and Partee’s death was ruled accidental.

Meanwhile, the two women who were passengers in the Jeep also suffered serious injuries.

They were transported to Stroger Hospital.

Wilson, 23, died on Saturday while an unnamed 19-year-old was said to be in critical condition.

The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accidents Unit will continue to probe the crash.

As of July 6, there were 407 fatal crashes in Illinois and they resulted in 446 fatalities.  Seventy-one of these accidents involved unlicensed drivers. In comparison, there were 453 fatalities at the same point in 2019.

One hundred and fifty-six of the fatalities for the year so far occurred on city streets while 130 happened on State-US routes.
