Saline County Rear-End Collision Leaves Ashley Hartmann Injured

Two people suffered injuries from a rear-end collision in Saline County, Illinois, while a male driver went unscathed. The car accident report for the Saturday, July 4th, occurrence named Ashley Hartmann, 21, of Stonefort, as one the injured victims and Brandon Hambelton, 18, of Carrier Mills, as the uninjured motorist.

According to the Illinois State Patrol District 19, they responded to a two-vehicle personal injury traffic crash at about 9 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that Hartman before the collision was traveling north on Illinois 145 in a  2008 Volkswagen Jetta, near Garden Heights.

The woman signaled to turn left into a private driveway, and slowed down to make the turn. At the same time, a 2010 Chevy truck driven by Hambleton was coming from behind her, and the teenager rear-ended the Jetta. Officers later discovered that the teen had looked away from the road momentarily when he struck the victim’s car.

Hartman and her 2-year-old male passenger sustained non-life-threatening wounds and received treatment in an area hospital. Other passengers in the Jetta and Hambleton went unscathed, and the ISP cited the teenager for the accident. He received citations for driving too fast for conditions/failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

The two are traffic offenses settleable with a fine. Drivers must pay attention to the road at all times as it takes only about three seconds for a distracted driver to cause a collision that might have fatal consequences.
