At about 11:11 a.m. on Friday, July 10th, three people sustained injuries after a traffic accident involving a van and tractor-trailer on Illinois Route 14 in the Benton area of Illinois. The Illinois State Police identified two of the victims as Joshua Simms, 36, of Christopher, and Larry Lampley, 60, of Whittington.
Facts from the car accident disclosed that Simms was northbound in a Dodge minivan on McLeansboro Street when he failed to stop at a stop sign. He struck a westbound tractor-trailer on IR-14. The collision sent the second vehicle off the roadway, and it hit two buildings, two pedestrians, two parked cars, and a trailer.
Medics took Lampley and the other unidentified pedestrian to an undisclosed hospital to treat their wounds. The ISP said that Simms ran from the crash scene, but the Franklin County Sheriff deputies apprehended him a short while after. The man had injuries from the collision, and the lawmen took him to the hospital for treatment.
The crash led to the diversion of traffic from the affected roadway while state troopers conducted preliminary investigations and cleared the scene. There is no additional information at this time.
