Arafat Atik Dies in Southwest Side Motorcycle Crash

A man lost his life in a motorcycle crash that took place on the Southwest Side. The fatal incident occurred on Monday, July 13. It happened early in the morning and was reported to the authorities at around 3:50 a.m. The driver was identified as Arafat Atik, 44, of Bridgeview as per early accident reports.

According to the details shared by the Chicago police, the Atik was riding his motorcycle in Garfield Ridge when he ran into the accident. He apparently lost control of his vehicle while traveling at a high speed in the 6300 block of South Harlem Avenue. As he did so, the motorcycle collided with a utility pole, causing him to be ejected from his ride.

Preliminary police investigations and accident reconstruction shows that Arafat Atik was thrown nearly a 100 feet from the motorcycle as a result of the collision. This caused him to sustain critical injuries. As the first responders and law enforcement arrived on the scene of the accident, Atik was pronounced dead on site. The Cook County medical examiner’s office later identified the deceased. The police and the medical examiner’s office continue to investigate the incident. Autopsy results are yet to return which would reveal the exact cause of death. Investigations so far show that no other vehicles or persons were involved in the crash. However, a more definite view of how the accident occurred and what kinds of injuries were sustained will be available once subsequent accident reports are released.
