51-year-old Willits resident, Scott Stanton, escaped an auto-motorcycle collision in Cloverdale, California, unscathed. The California Highway Patrol said that the Saturday, August 1st, accident claimed the motorcyclist’s life whose identity they are withholding pending the notification of next-of-kin.
The accident report showed that the incident happened on U.S. Highway 101. At approximately 1:18 p.m., CHP officers responded to a crash call on the highway north of Dutcher Creek. The preliminary investigation uncovered Stanton operated a Volvo southbound in the right lane of the freeway with a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling in the same direction from behind.
The investigators said that for unknown reasons, the Volvo drifted onto the right shoulder of the highway and collided with a guardrail. The vehicle then veered back to the left across both traffic lanes, putting it in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist tried braking to avoid hitting the car but was unsuccessful.
The CHP said that the male biker died at the scene from his injuries. Neither Stanton nor the motorcyclist appeared to have operated their vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and speed was not a factor. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office is handling the investigation into the cause of death. There is no additional information.
Auto-motorcycle collisions occur when a car and a motorcycle collide. The fault can be that the operator of a vehicle or a motorcyclist, and it is avoidable if the two practice safe road behaviors and obey traffic rules and regulations.
