A rollover crash on Interstate 94 in the Lake Forest area of Illinois cost a male passenger his life and left a driver and others injured. Rafael Perez, 25, of Berkeley, drove one of the vehicles involved in the Sunday, August 2nd, collision, with Kevin Perez, 21, of Kewanee as his passenger.
Facts from the car accident report placed the time of the occurrence around 12:45 p.m. The Illinois State Patrol said that Rafael operated a white 2020 Toyota Camry on northbound Interstate 94 north of Half Day Road across two lanes of the road at top speed.
He lost control of the car for unknown reasons and collided with a blue 2013 Honda CRV driven by 43-year-old Iryan Andrushchak, a Chicago resident. The impact caused the Toyota to roll several times, ejecting Rafael and Kevin. The vehicle rested on the left shoulder of the interstate.
Kevin sustained severe wounds and passed away at the crash site. Medics transported Refael to the hospital, where he remained as of Monday, August 3rd. The ISP said that the crash left a passenger in the Toyota, 18-year-old Brenda Perez of Addison, stuck, and emergency workers from Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District had to extricate her.
The teen suffered severe wounds, and medics conveyed her to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda and a 16-year-old female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment. 50-year-old Voloddymyr Andrushchak, who traveled with the two appeared to go unscathed.
The police said the incident led to the closure of all outbound lanes between Route 22 and Everett Road for over four hours. The investigation is ongoing, and there are no citations at this time.
