William Pennington Survives Motorcycle Collision in Marion County

The Illinois State Police said in a press release on Sunday, August 9th, that a motorcyclist survived a solo crash in Marion County, Illinois. The 25-year-old man from Flora, William Pennington, crashed his bike in a rural area.

The accident report by the state police disclosed that the victim was northbound on Interstate 57, north of Salem, when the crash happened. Pennington told officers that he was trying to pass a car when his front tire and handlebars started shaking, causing him to lose control.

The motorcyclist veered to the left of the roadway, entered the median, and landed on the pavement after getting ejected. Medics took Pennington to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. From there, they flew him to a regional medical center in Springfield for more treatment.

Operating a motorcycle is different from driving a car, and riders must exercise due care when riding it. Motorcyclists must ensure that they adequately fasten a helmet on their heads with covering for their face and eyes, and wear protective clothing.

Obey traffic rules, ride defensively, and keep riding skills honed through continuous education. Ride awake and sober, and when preparing to ride, ensure that the motorcycle is fit for the road. Check the tires for cracks or bulges or signs of wear in the treads, look for signs of oil and gas leakage, test headlights, taillights, and signals for high and low beams, and ensure hydraulic and coolant fluids are at the right level.
