On Saturday, August 8th, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, revealed the name of the driver killed in an auto-pedestrian collision in Bakersfield, California. 21-year-old Zanhi Williams passed away after a moving train struck his car.

The incident happened on Wednesday, August 5th. The accident report disclosed that the victim and his girlfriend, Bonnie Jeban, 21, traveled in a Nissan Altima before the collision with a BNSF freight train. According to the California Highway Patrol, the impact ejected Williams and his passenger from the vehicle.

The man passed away at the crash site, but Jeban survived with severe injuries. Medics transported her to Kern Medical Center for treatment. The CHP said that the two were not wearing seatbelts when they crashed.

The preliminary investigation uncovered that the victim’s Nissan traveled westbound at high speed on Edison Highway east of Oswell Street. Williams passed another vehicle on the second lane and lost control of the car. He swerved to the left across a raised median and the westbound lanes.

The vehicle continued onto the road’s north shoulder and overturned onto the railroad tracks where the eastbound train struck it. The collision remains under investigation, and anyone with information should contact the CHP on the listed line.
