Antonio Ramirez, Jr. Named Dies In Highway 246 Head-on Collision with Steve Holmlund

An accident report update released on Monday, August 10th, named the fatal victim of a head-on collision on Highway 246 in the area of Santa Ynez Valley, California. 42-year-old Antonio Ramirez Jr. of Santa Barbara died after crashing his car against that of 62-year-old Steve Holmlund of Santa Ynez.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal victim drove a Ford C-Max eastbound on H-246 at about 9:12 a.m. on Friday, August 7th. At the same time, Holmlund traveled westbound in a Ford-350 truck.

The investigators said Ramirez Jr. crossed into the lane heading west for reasons that remain elusive, causing the truck’s head-on collision. The crash caused severe damage to the C-Max, and firefighters with Santa Barbara County used extensive extrication methods to free the victim trapped inside.

Ramirez Jr. sustained fatal wounds, and medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Holmlund suffered minor injuries, and the paramedics transported him to the hospital for treatment. The CHP closed H-246 in both directions while they carried out the preliminary investigation and cleared the scene.

The investigators said that there’s a probability that alcohol or drugs played a role in the occurrence. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. Collisions of this nature are preventable if drivers avoid driving impaired, stick to their travel lane, obey traffic rules and regulations, prevent all forms of distractions, and make safety a priority.
