The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and the Will County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in Minooka, Illinois, on Wednesday, August 26th. The incident claimed the life of 57-year-old Raymond Navarro of Joliet.

The sheriff’s department said in the accident report that the victim swerved to avoid striking an animal at the intersection of East Condor Court and South Bell Road. The coroner’s office said Navarro suffered severe wounds but made it to St. Joe’s Medical Center in Joliet, alive.

However, he passed away around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 27th. There is no additional information at this time.

Motorcycle accidents are not uncommon, and due to the speed riders travel at and the open design of the bike, it mostly ends fatally. While wearing a helmet and protective apparel goes a long way in preventing severe injuries, motorcyclists must go the extra mile to ensure their safety.

When preparing to ride the two-wheeled drive, check the tires for any bulge or sign of wear in the treads as low pressure and defects can cause a blowout. Look for signs of oil or gas leakage, test the headlight for high and low beams, ensure all the lights are functioning, and check the hydraulic and coolant fluids weekly.

After mounting the motorcycle, ensure the clutch and throttle are working smoothly, and clean and adjust mirrors for sharpest viewing. Test front and rear brakes and the horn to ensure functionality.
