A motorcycle accident in Yorkville, Illinois, on Sunday, August 30th, left a man injured. The accident report disclosed the name of the injured motorcyclist as Francis Walter, 73, of Glen Ellyn.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office said that the incident happened around 11:49 a.m. on Route 71 at County Line Road. Walter rear-ended a vehicle turning left onto the southbound lane of County Line from the southwest lane of R-71.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment in a hospital. Deputies cited the man for following too closely. There is no additional information.
Under the Illinois Vehicle Code, it is a traffic offense for the operator of a car to follow another vehicle too closely and cause an accident. The law states that a driver should not follow another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent.
The drivers must take into account the speed of other vehicles, traffic conditions, and the condition of the roadway. When a motor vehicle is following another outside a business or residential district, it must leave sufficient space between itself and the car unless it is in the process of passing it.
The space must be enough for another vehicle to pass without creating a dangerous situation. Those who violate this rule would receive a ticket from law enforcement agencies, and they have to pay a fine of $1,000 together with mandatory court fees and costs. A conviction would also get reported to the Illinois Secretary of State and placed on the offender’s public record.
