A suspected DUI driver who caused an accident that injured five people in Edwardsville, Illinois, would need a drunk driving attorney’s expertise. On Wednesday, September 9th, the Madison County District Attorney’s Office charged Kyle L. J. Rothe of Benld with ten counts of aggravated driving under the influence.
The DA’s office alleged that on February 5th, the suspect crossed the centerline of Fruit Road and Illinois 157, thereby causing a head-on collision that injured four minors. Two of the children are aged 10; one is 13, and the other, 9.
The prosecutors filed documents showing that one child suffered a broken rib and internal injuries, and another suffered a broken wrist, causing nerve damage and vision impairment. A third child sustained a laceration to the neck; the fourth suffered a back sprain, and first responders had to cut the minor from the vehicle.
The fifth victim, an adult, was in a vehicle that was not part of the head-on collision. The accident report showed that Rothe drove a 2019 Dodge Charger and had a blood-alcohol level above .08%. The latter is the level needed for a legal presumption of intoxication.
For each of the victims, the DA charged Rothe with one count each of aggravated driving under the influence. The remaining five counts alleged that he drove under the influence of drugs. The suspect allegedly had hydromorphone, a potent prescription pain medication, and THC, an active marijuana ingredient in his system. The prosecutors waited until they had the complete result of the lab test before filing charges. They set Rothe’s bail bond at $80 000.
