The female driver killed in a traffic collision on US-95 in the Las Vegas area of Nevada has been identified. On Saturday, September 12th, the Nevada Highway patrol revealed the woman’s name as Susan Teves, a 58-year-old city resident.
The NHP also identified the man who caused the accident and sustained injuries as Benjamin Ames, 32, of Las Vegas. The investigators said that they took the man into custody and booked him on driving under the influence, above the legal limit, resulting in death, amid other charges.
The man faces a probation violation, reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm, and duty to stop at the scene of an accident. The other charges are driving the wrong way on a one-way road and failure to give information to the party at a vehicle accident.
The driver’s failure to report the unattended vehicle, proof of insurance required, and failure to wear a seatbelt also made the list of charges. In the car accident report, the NHP stated that before 2 a.m. on Friday, September 11th, Ames drove a Hummer southbound in the northbound US-95 near Russell Road.
The suspect then collided with a Nissan Sentra operated by Teves, leaving her with fatal injuries. He sustained minor wounds and received treatment at the hospital. The NHP said at the time that they believed speed and impairment contributed to the accident.
The collision led to the closure of the affected roadway while the investigators gathered evidence and cleared debris. The highway patrol named it the 41st fatal accident in the Southern Command jurisdiction in 2020.
