Deadly Car Accident on 118 Freeway in Chatsworth/Porter Ranch Area

Yesterday, a tow truck rear-ended a car on the 118 freeway causing the car to erupt into flames. The driver of the car was killed as a result of serious burn injuries. The California Highway Patrol said that firefighters were going through the area. The CHP turned some vehicles around to use an on-ramp as an exit.

It is unclear at this point why traffic had come to a complete stop or why the tow truck driver did not stop in time. One witness reported the tow truck driver doing about 50-mph at the time of the impact. Witnesses also reported being confused as to which direction they needed to be travelling in.
