UPDATE 2/4/13:  The coroner has identified the following victims who were killed in the tour bus crash:  Guadalupe Olivas, a 61-year-old from San Diego; Elvira Garcia Jimenez, a 40-year-old from San Diego; Victor Cabrera Garcia, a 13-year-old from San Diego; and Aleida Adriana Arce Hernandez, a 38-year-old from Tijuana, Mexico and Rubicelia Escobedo Flores, 34, of Tijuana, Mexico.

UPDATE 2/4/13:  Last year, Scapadas Magicas, the owner of the bus that was involved in the crash was cited by authorities for maintenance problems including faulty axle and brakes. It appears that the cause of the crash was due to the poor condition and failure to properly maintain the bus.

In a horrific bus accident on Sunday February 3, 2013 at approximately 6:30pm, a tour bus carrying passengers back from a ski trip to Big Bear crashed leaving at least 8 people dead and 38 injured. The crash occurred on Highway 38 near Bryant Street in Mentone, roughly 80 miles east of Los Angeles. Highway 38 goes through the San Bernardino National Forest and is use to travel to and from Big Bear.

CAUSE OF THE CRASH

Reports indicated that the bus was experiencing brake problems on its way down the mountain. The bus was swerving in between cars and the driver was attempting to control its speed, but crashed into a car causing the bus  to rollover. Maintenance issues are clearly a factor and must be looked into immediately.
INJURED VICTIMS TAKEN TO NEARBY HOSPITALS

The bus was carrying passengers from Tijuana for a day trip to Big Bear for skiing and snowboarding. Injured passengers have been taken to various hospitals nearby including Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Redland Community Hospital, Community Hospital of San Bernardino, St. Bernadine Medical Center and Loma Linda Medical Center.

IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION
