Blaine Lee McKinney Arrested After Crashing Into a Ditch During Police Pursuit

A 24-year-old man from Burney, driving a reported stolen car, was arrested on Thursday night after leading police deputies in a heated chase that resulted in a non-fatal car crash in Shasta County, California. The incident took place on Thursday, March 19, near the Shasta County Sheriff Office (SCSO) Burney Substation.

Officers disclosed in a statement that the encounter began at about 9:26 pm when SCSO deputies identified a white Honda reported stolen by the Redding Police Department.

The deputies attempted to pull over the suspect, but the vehicle took off at high speed, fleeing north on Shasta Street in the direction of the SCSO Burney Substation. Officers on duty went after the culprit until the Accord crashed into a ditch and got stuck.

The alleged car thief made his way out of the car, and took to his heels, but was intercepted by the police shortly after.

Authorities identified the motorist as 24-year-old Blaine Lee McKinney, a five-time convicted felon from Burney.

The driver was found to be in possession of a can of red pepper defence gel, which was illegal considering his previous jail records. It was also discovered that the local was currently on parole for an earlier car theft.

The operator of the Honda Accord was arrested and booked into the Shasta County jail on charges of vehicle theft, felony evading law enforcement, possession of stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of pepper spray, and violation of parole.
