Authorities have identified the female motorist who died in a two-vehicle collision, which happened at Tippecanoe Avenue, Highland, California. The victim was named as Crystal Janell Reed, 27, in the early hours of Thursday, March 12.
The fatal incident took place on Monday, March 2nd, at the Highland Interchange, claiming the life of one of the involved parties while leaving the other injured.
According to reports released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Crystal was allegedly struck by a suspected DUI motorist, suffering major injuries in the process, which resulted in her death.
Police responded to a distress call at about 6:40 pm, describing a fatal accident that took place on Tippecanoe Avenue and Highland’s 3rd street, with two injured victims.
Reports stated that the 36-year-old intoxicated female motorist was driving a 2018 GMC Sierra along the northbound traffic lanes on Tippecanoe Avenue when she jumped the stop signal on the traffic light.
At the same time, the fatal victim was traveling west in a Kia Soul along 3rd Street. The GMC driver collided head-on with Crystal’s vehicle.
The 27-year-old driver suffered life-threatening injuries in the traffic collision and was transported by paramedics to the Loma Linda Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
The offending motorist failed field sobriety test, confirming she was impaired by alcohol, drugs, or both. She was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing bodily injuries.
The accused was detained at the West Valley Detention Center, with a bail capped at $250 000.
