David Gutierrez Named as Pedestrian Killed in Sun Valley Accident

The male pedestrian who died after a car struck him in Sun Valley, California, has been identified. The updated accident report released on Tuesday, July 1st, named David Gutierrez, of Moorpark, as the fatal accident.

The crash happened on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, July 19th. It occurred precisely near Lankershim Boulevard. When paramedics arrived at the scene, there was nothing they could do for Gutierrez, and they pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver who struck the man fled the scene, and the California Highway Patrol described his vehicle as a big red truck. The collision led to the closure of the southbound lanes while the investigators gathered evidence and cleared the scene. The search for the hit-and-run driver is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact the CHP Altadena Area Office.

Under the California Vehicle Code, a person involved in an accident must stop at the scene or the nearest possible place where traffic won’t get impeded. If there’s an injury, help the victim, call for help, and wait for the first responders to arrive.

If there’s no injury, and the crash involves a parked vehicle, locate the owner and exchange contact, driver’s license, and insurance information. If the owner is not around, the driver should leave behind his or her information, and do the same if the crash involves personal property like a signpost, mailbox, or fence. Failure to do any of this would amount to a hit-and-run offense.
