Christopher Jones Identified as Victim of Desert Hot Springs Auto-Bicycle Crash

On Thursday, July 9th, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office named Christopher Jones, a 43-year-old resident of Palm Springs as the man killed in an auto-bicycle crash. The collision happened on Two Bunch Palm Trail in the Desert Hot Springs area of California.

The accident report showed that the incident took place at about 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8th. Jones was riding a bicycle on the trail near Cholla Drive when a westbound vehicle veered off the road and struck him. When paramedics arrived, they found the victim lying on the roadway unresponsive and pronounced him dead.

Officers with the Desert Hot Springs Police Department revealed that the driver that struck James fled the crash site without stopping. They described the suspect’s car as a maroon 2006 to 2009 Lexus IS250 but did not release additional information. The accident remains under investigation.

When a motor vehicle crash occurs, it triggers a flight or fight response in those involved, especially with the driver that has the liability. Under the California Vehicle Code, a person involved in an accident must stop at the scene, or look for the nearest possible place where traffic won’t get impeded.

Check for injuries, and if there’s one — or a death — contact emergency responders and provide first aid to the injured person. Wait for the authorities to arrive and give a concise statement of the events leading to the crash when they do. Don’t leave the scene until the investigators conclude their preliminary investigation and give the go-ahead.
