Kristi Swopes, 38, was killed early Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash involving at least one hit-and-run driver.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m. in southbound lanes on Bishop Ford Freeway near 156th Street in Dolton, California.
While making a right-hand lane change in her silver 2012 Ford, Swopes hit a maroon 2010 Chevrolet. Her car spun out of control and was subsequently hit by a third vehicle, a silver 2004 Oldsmobile. The Oldsmobile also spun out of control, and hit a semi truck, which then hit Swopes, who had left her vehicle and was standing in the middle of the freeway.
The truck driver stopped briefly, but left the scene soon after. The truck driver is wanted for hit-and-run, and police continue to search fro him. His vehicle was described as a red tractor pulling a white trailer.
The driver of the Oldsmobile, a 33-year-old woman, was hospitalized with minor injuries. No one else was injured in the crash.
Following the crash, all southbound lanes of Bishop Ford Freeway were closed for several hours.
