Authorities are investigating an alleged DUI crash which occurred over the weekend in Selma, California, and left a woman injured. The mishap happened at night on Sunday, May 24, and requires the legal expertise of a car injury lawyer.

Officers of the California Highway Patrol responded to a location in the area of Highway 43 and Mountain View Avenue on reports of a two-vehicle collision. Calls reporting the incident came in shortly after 10:35 p.m., police said.

Preliminary investigations showed one of the vehicles was a Ford Focus, driven by a 31-year-old Fresno man. The Ford was traveling through the east traffic lanes on Mountain View, towards the U.S. 43 intersection, which had the red light up.

Officers said the driver, Alvaro Roman, boycotted a vehicle in front of him which was stopped at the red light and entered the intersection unlawfully. Roman continued on his way, into 43, where he struck a moving Toyota Corolla from behind.

The operator of the Toyota, identified as Edwina Cervantes, 27, of Selma suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the collision. Roman also escaped the wreck with minor injuries. First responders transported the two motorists to Community Medical Center for treatment.

Detectives determined that Roman was intoxicated when he collided with Edwina Cervantes’s vehicle. They detained him on suspicion of DUI, causing injuries. The suspect remains held at the Fresno County Jail.

Injured victims of traffic wrecks should endeavor to get in touch with a car injury lawyer who could help them secure maximum compensation for damages using a personal injury claim.
