Plano Woman Not Wearing Seatbelt, Killed in Crash on Route 47

On Tuesday afternoon a crash along Route 47 in Yorkville left one woman dead and sent two other women to the hospital after a pickup truck rear-ended a sedan. Police have now released the names of the victims.

A 2008 Nissan four-door sedan was stopped, facing north on Route 47, apparently waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Corneils Road, when a 2016 Chevy pickup truck struck it from behind just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to Yorkville Police Deputy Chief Larry Hilt. Both vehicles ended up in the westbound ditch just north of Corneils Road, Hilt said.

Besides the driver, the sedan had a passenger in the front seat and another sitting in the back, Hilt said. The pickup truck was occupied only by its driver. Police don’t know how fast the truck was moving.

The driver of the truck, Kyle Delhaye, 20, of South Elgin, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Hilt said. He was reportedly not injured.

The back-seat passenger of the car, Ashley Lopez, 23, of Plano, was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where she was pronounced dead, Hilt said. She had not been wearing a seatbelt. All others involved in the accident had been wearing seatbelts. The driver, Selma Martinez, 56, of the same address as Lopez, was initially transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center and later transferred to Advocate Good Samaritan, where hospital staff Wednesday night did not release her condition.

The front-seat passenger, Angela Lopez, 22, of the same address, was injured but conscious at the scene, Hilt said. She was treated and released from Rush-Copley on Tuesday, according to hospital staff
