Hit-and-Run Driver, Michael Wojcik Injured by Witness Following Two-Vehicle Crash in Eureka

In the reports of a car accident which occurred on August 20th, the police in Eureka confirmed the hospitalization of one of the involved parties. Justin Michael Wojcik, 49, ended up in a hospital following the Thursday night accident in Eureka, California.

At exactly 10:40p.m., the Eureka Police Department responded to calls of a collision on Harris Street and E Street. The Humboldt Bay Fire Department also responded to the crash and assisted in the operation.

The incident involved a Toyota pickup truck, driven by Wojcik, and a gray Prius, operated by another motorist. Investigators gathered that Wojcik’s vehicle was southbound on E Street. The pickup entered the intersection of Harris and E streets on a red light and collided with the Prius, which was southbound on Harris.

Upon impact, the Toyota pickup went ablaze, while the Prius veered off the road and struck a signpost at the Patriot Gas Station. The Prius suffered major front-end damages as a result, but its driver went unscathed.

Following the encounter, Wojcik abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but a witness caught up with him. During the confrontation, the witness knocked the hit-and-run motorist unconscious in a bid to restrain him.

When officers arrived, they found Wojcik unconscious at the gas station, with bleeding wounds on his face and head. A City Ambulance conveyed the man to St. Joseph Hospital for medical aid. Eureka officers observed signs of impairment and requested a toxicology test to determine his blood/alcohol levels. The results are pending.
