Wendy Guzman Issued Several Citations For Smashing Into Covered Bridge in Long Grove

A 42-year-old Chicago woman received multiple citations on Saturday,  August 22nd, after crashing into a covered bridge in Long Grove,  Illinois. The suspect, identified as Wendy Guzman,  drove her vehicle through the bridge and caused severe damages to the historic landmark.

Guzman was driving a chartered school bus eastbound on Robert Parker Coffin Road when she approached the Long Grove Covered Bridge.  Despite warnings from her GPS to change her route due to the nature of her vehicle,  the driver proceeded to drive through the bridge. Guzman told Lake County deputies that her passengers prompted her to make the move.

As she did, however,  the top of the school bus struck the bridge violently,  dislodging several debris. No one sustained injuries in the collision, which happened at about 12:25 pm.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office cited the motorist for disregarding the “no truck/buses on bridge” signpost,  which was a control device.  Guzman also received citations for exceeding the height restriction if 8’6″ on a covered bridge,  as well as the five-ton limit on the roadway.

Wendy Guzman assumed full responsibility for the accident. She has a court appearance slated for October 7th, in connection with the crash and damage to public property.

Motorists should desist from disobeying traffic control devices, as that may lead to serious property damage, injury or death. This, in turn, attracts hefty fines,  and in other cases, jail time.
