A lifeguard in training was killed yesterday after being struck by boat during a training exercise. The 11-year-old girl, Alyssa Squirrel of Laguna Hills, was taking part in an exercise where trainees were retrieved by boats. The 3 pm boating accident took place as the boat attempted to pick the trainees from the water. The boat driver, a 54-year-old experienced lifeguard, probably did not see the 11-year-old lifeguard since the water was choppy, according to reports. The girl suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in Orange, where she died while under surgery.
