Toddler, Mason Ruiz, Identified as Long Beach Fatal Victim

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, On Tuesday, August 18th, identified the toddler killed in a car accident in North Long Beach, California. 22-month-old Mason Hernandez Ruiz died after a car service struck him in front of his home.

The coroner and the Long Beach Police Department said the victim sustained the wounds that claimed his life around 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 15th. The accident report showed that the incident happened near Atlantic Avenue and Artesia Boulevard.

The police said that the car’s front tire struck Ruiz, leaving him with severe life-threatening injuries. Medics rushed the child to the hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. Zabel said that the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with their investigation.

The investigation into the occurrence is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information should contact the LBPD on the listed line or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.

Collisions of this nature are described as auto-pedestrian, and they are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths in California. They are generally avoidable if drivers and pedestrians work together to promote safe road behavior, and one of the ways of doing that is backing out safely from curbs and driveway.
