Maria Lopez Dies in San Jose Pedestrian Crash

The authorities in San Jose, California, on Thursday, February 27th, disclosed the name of the woman who died in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident. She is a 55-year-old grandmother, Maria Lopez.

Lopez was involved in an accident that also injured her boyfriend on Saturday, February 22nd, at about 7 p.m. The two were walking on the crosswalk on the busy San Carlos Street at Brooklyn Avenue when they got hit by a car.

The couple had just finished a meal at their favorite Chinese restaurant and were headed to the 99 Cent store. The accident occurred when a Ford Focus slammed into Lopez and her man.

The driver of the car — a female — said she did not see the couple on the crosswalk. The driver, who only got identified as a woman in her 60s, stopped after the crash and cooperated with the police.

Lopez and her boyfriend sustained severe injuries and got rushed to the hospital. The woman died while receiving treatment, but the man is still alive at the time of this report.

Witnesses told the police that a VTA bus stopped along the crosswalk, and might have blocked the driver’s view, thereby preventing her from seeing the deceased and her boyfriend.

The police are investigating to see if poor lighting, negligence by the driver, or distraction, contributed to the crash. They also admitted that the street where the accident occurred is famous for traffic crashes.

The police have advised residents in the area to make a report when the flashing light at intersections stop working. Alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the accident.
