Jarod Robinson, Michael Milner Hit by Car While Crossing Street in Marietta

One pedestrian suffered serious injuries while another escaped with only minor injuries following a crash in Marietta, Georgia on Monday night.

Police say the crash occurred on Canton Road near Wellstar Kennestone Medical Center. The injured have been identified as Jarod Robinson, 34, and Michael Milner, 45.

They were trying to cross the street from opposite directions around 7:45 p.m. when they were struck by a westbound 2007 Toyota Camry. The vehicle was approaching Canton Road’s intersection with Elizabeth Street.

Milner, a resident of Marietta, received non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Kennestone by Metro EMA. Robinson, also of Marietta, suffered life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital. He was said to be in stable but serious condition.

A spokesman for the Marietta Police Department, Officer Chuck McPhilamy, identified the driver of the Toyota as Julian Flores-Lopez. He said the 25-year-old called 911 to report the accident.

No one has been charged in connection with the crash. However, investigators are still trying to figure out whether the two men were on the crosswalk when they were struck.

Officer McPhilamy said it was not clear who had the right of way.

Under Georgia’s laws, drivers are required to stop and stay stopped to allow pedestrians to use the crosswalk when they are on the same half of the roadway as the vehicle. Simply yielding to them is not enough.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Lead Investigator Kavon Samimi of the Marietta Police Department’s S.T.E.P. Unit at 770-794-5384.
