92-Year-Old Bicyclist Hurt In Crash With Car In Newport Beach

A 92 –year-old man suffered major injuries after crashing with a car while riding his bicycle near Seventh Street and Balboa Boulevard in Newport Beach around 8:40 p.m. Monday, authorities said.

The bicyclist, a resident of Newport Beach, was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center for care. The driver of a white Mazda hatchback, which had been traveling westbound on Balboa, was not injured.

“It’s unclear who was at fault,” said Sgt. Kyle Cammack. “We’re still investigating, but it appears to be an accident … the driver stayed on scene and is cooperating.”

Neither the driver nor cyclist appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Cammack said.

Police are seeking witnesses of the crash. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call NBPD Investigator Chris Burns at 949-644-3747 or cburns@nbpd.org.
