On Tuesday morning, June 23, 2015, 17 year old Spencer Becker was killed in a tragic accident at Jamboree Road and Bristol Street in Newport Beach. Becker was a student at Mater Dei High School and played on the volleyball team.
Our deepest thoughts and condolences to the Becker’s, their family and friends.
According to the Newport Beach police, Becker was headed eastbound on Bristol Street when it collided with a Toyota Corolla heading northbound on Jamboree Road.
Spencer Becker was taken via ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Causes of the Accident
Police are currently investigating the factors that may have contributed to the collision. It is important to note that car accident cases involving a wrongful death such as this one involving Spencer Becker must be investigated independently and not solely reliant upon a police report or the various news reports found online.
While some preliminary reports say that speed may have contributed to the cause of the crash – it is significantly more important to determine the other contributing factors that caused Spencer’s tragic death.
All evidence should immediately be preserved and inspected by experts before any of it is disturbed. In this case, Spencer’s vehicle should be immediately located, inspected and examined by experts.
According to news reports, Spencer was thrown out of the vehicle. It is critically important to determine whether there was a seatbelt failure or spooling out. It is very common that in serious accidents (an in particular rollovers), a vehicles seat-belt fails resulting in the passenger being thrown from the vehicle giving the appearance that the driver or passenger weren’t wearing a seat belt. Reality is that there are thousands of accidents every year that individuals are thrown from the vehicle even if a seat belt was in use.
Some news photos reveal a possible roof crush. There are basic minimum safety standards and requirements as it related to the integrity of a vehicles roof. Again, this must be examined on Spencer’s Suburban to rule out any potential product defect.
Again, our deepest thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the Spencer family.
