A report of a car accident on Highway 99, in the Yuba City area of California, revealed that a woman survived with severe wounds. The authorities identified the victim of the Saturday, April 18th, accident as Olivia Garcia, 50.
The preliminary accident report by the California Highway Patrol showed that the crash occurred at about 4:40 a.m. The chain of events that led to the collision began when a woman identified as Adele Vershaw, 24, while driving a 2018 Dodge Caravan drifted from her lane.
The driver went from the northbound lane of the highway into the center median and entered the southbound lane. Vershaw drove into the right shoulder of the south roadway, before making a sharp turn to the right, and then re-entered the road directly into the path of Garcia.
The injured woman was unable to avoid the Dodge driver, and they collided head-on. The female driver and her 2-year-old passenger died at the scene without making it to the hospital, while the medics took Garcia to the hospital.
The woman had significant injuries, and her condition is unknown at the time of this report. The CHP investigators are trying to piece together what caused the tragedy and will provide updates once they have answers.
Head-on collisions, as seen in most reports of car accidents, is one of the most common types of crashes. Others are rear-ended collisions, broad-side crashes, and single-vehicle crashes. Traffic officials advise that the best way to prevent accidents is for drivers to maintain their lanes and avoid drifting.
