Tristen Hays Killed In Jet Ski Crash On Colorado River Near Yuma

Authorities have identified the jet ski rider who died Saturday afternoon after he crashed into a boat on the Colorado River in Yuma County.

Tristen Hays, 20, of Lakeside, Calif, died as a result of the collision, according to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Department. Accident reports available Tuesday do not list any additional injuries as a result of the crash.

It’s unclear from information included in a press release whether either operator has been deemed at fault. If the boat operator, who was not publicly identified, is deemed responsible, he or she might consider obtaining the services of a top injury attorney.

Deputies said Hays was riding a jet ski parallel to a boat at about 3:30 p.m. on the Colorado River north of Martinez Lake. At some point, Hays “turned into the path of the boat and collided with it,” authorities wrote in the press release.

The release provided few details about the moments leading up to the crash. It also was unclear whether Hays died at the scene or was transported to an area hospital, as the release simply stated he “sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.”

“This case is pending further investigation,” deputies wrote in the press release. “It is currently unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision.”

Authorities have not said whether charges or citations are being considered in connection to the incident. If any are announced, the accused party likely will need to solicit the services of a top injury attorney.
