A man identified as 54-year-old John Redman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Ana early Monday.
The incident was reported about 5:50 a.m. in the 2600 block of West First Street, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. Redman lived in a halfway house nearby.
Redman was struck by what is believed to be a white Toyota Tacoma as he was crossing the street and the driver of the pickup did not stop.
Surveillance video captured the truck as it was turning at an intersection and the vehicle appeared to have front-end damage. Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the driver that left the scene, officials said.
According to Investigator Bao, the driver wouldn’t have been at fault in the crash, but since he or she fled the scene, they may face hit-and-run charges.
Legal Help in Hit-and-Run Cases
When a hit-and-run driver takes the life of an individual or causes significant bodily injury, it is difficult to know what recourse you have as a loved one or as an injured individual. If the responsible driver cannot be identified, what can you do?
Often, the victim has access to insurance policies that cover such events. Often, uninsured motorist coverage can extend to hit-and-run accidents. In other cases, life insurance policies, business insurance claims, and claims against government entities can potentially offer financial restitution for the injury or death that occurred.
