Sergio Vargas Arrested for Hit-and-Run Accident in Santa Rosa

On Friday night, September 25th, the Santa Rosa Police, California, broke up a large sideshow in the Santa Rosa Marketplace parking lot that led to an injury accident. They arrested one of the drivers involved, 21-year-old Sergio Eduardo Vargas, and he would need to hire a car accident attorney.

The police placed the man behind the wheel of a white Ford Mustang doing donuts. The vehicle struck two 18-year-old females, leaving one with minor injuries and the other with non-life-threatening injuries.

Vargas fled from the scene near Highway 101, but officers found and took him into custody. They booked him into jail on suspicion of hit-and-run, reckless driving, and having an outstanding warrant.

The SRPD said they located the slideshow around 11:15 p.m. and found a large crowd watching drivers street racing and performing other dangerous maneuvers. Sgt. Patricia Stevens noted that the officers at the scene were part of a sideshow enforcement operation in response to increasing community complaints about illegal car demonstrations.

Stevens described the operation as a special effort in which several officers get assigned to enforce traffic violations concerning the sideshows. She added that they arrested two additional drivers, identified as Seth Ostram, 40, and a 21-year-old Santa Rosa man for reckless driving.

A hit-and-run under the California Vehicle Code is a criminal offense punishable with a prison term and payment of fines. To avoid the penalties, drivers must remain at the scene of an accident, make a report, and assist any injured person.
