A single-car crash in the Colfax area of California on Sunday, July 26th, left one person injured and another dead. The car accident report disclosed the survivor’s name as Keena Bryant-Donatel, 22, and that of the fatal victim as Ashley Ramos, 22, of Sacramento.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Bryant-Donatel was behind the wheel of a speeding 2007 Honda Civic at about 4:35 p.m. on Interstate 80. The man was westbound, weaving in and out of traffic east of Drum Forebay Road. He veered onto the right shoulder of the roadway, went off the road, and crashed into several trees over the embankment.
The impact left Ramos dead, while medics transported Bryant-Donatel to the hospital in critical condition. There is no update on the driver’s status at this time. The CHP handled the preliminary investigation, and they had the help of Cal-Fire and the American Medical Response. The inquiry remains active.
Speed is one of the common and leading causes of motor vehicle collisions. Under California law, the maximum speed limit on most highways is 65 miles per hour. However, a driver can go as high as 70 miles per hour if posted on the roadway.
On two-lane undivided highways, and for vehicles towing trailers, the speed limit is 55 mph unless a post states otherwise. Drivers should adhere to the limits to prevent collisions with fatal injuries and adverse legal consequences that might arise.
