Sonya Sifuentes Arrested Following Police Pursuit Escalating in Traffic Accident

A suspected car thief was arrested on Thursday morning after leading Pomona Police Officers in a chase through the City of Pomona, California, that ended in a two-vehicle crash. The incident took place on Thursday, March 26.

Authorities reported that officers of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force assigned to Garey and Fernleaf Avenues noticed a vehicle which was earlier reported stolen.

The officers attempted to flag down the stolen car, but the vehicle operator zoomed off at a high rate of speed.

Police Patrol set out in pursuit of the female motorist, who maneuvered her way through the city with law enforcement on her trail.

Upon approaching the intersection of Grand Avenue and Gibb’s Street, the alleged vehicle thief t-boned a parked car, rendering both vehicles damaged.

The woman, whose identity was disclosed as Sonya Sifuentes, 35, from Pomona, then attempted to flee the crash site, but was cornered by authorities, who apprehended her.

Although Sonya was not reported injured, a male passenger traveling with her in the vehicle, whose name was withheld, was treated on the scene by paramedics on complaints of leg and head pain.

Investigators discovered a loaded handgun in possession of the female driver following a thorough search of the stolen car.

Authorities disclosed that the culprit, who had at least two outstanding no-bail warrants, was recently arrested for unlicensed possession of a concealed weapon. Sonya has been detained at the Pomona City Jail.
