John Mathison

A man from Peoria, Illinois, was arrested by the police following a DUI accident that killed a woman in the city on Sunday evening, June 21st. The Peoria Police Department named Khalil  D. Brown, 24, as the suspect, and the Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the victim as Katherine Ware, 72.

The accident report disclosed that Ware was heading southwest on Jefferson Street in a truck around 10:50 p.m. Witnesses told the police that the woman was attempting to either cross or turn onto the roadway from Cass Street. At the same time, Brown was heading south on Jefferson, and he collided with the victim’s vehicle.

The impact caused Ware’s car to roll several times, ejecting her in the process. The Peoria Fire Department and Advanced Medical Transport responded to the scene alongside the PPD, and they pronounced the woman dead at about 11:30 p.m. The medics said that it is likely that she died instantly.

The AMT transported Brown and his passenger to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The PPD took the suspect into custody after he received treatment and charged him with aggravated DUI. The accident remains under investigation, and it is headed by the police and the coroner’s office.

Traffic collisions are one of the leading causes of deaths in Illinois and the United States. Accidents are preventable if drivers practice safe road behaviors and put safety above everything else

Those involved in DUI-related accidents should contact a drunk driving attorney for legal advice and representation.
