A drunk driving attorney would come in handy following the arrest of a man allegedly driving while intoxicated, and causing injuries to the occupants of a second vehicle. The San Diego authorities detained the man on Thursday, May 21, shortly after the incident in La Mesa, California.
Police said the suspect, identified as Stephen Briseno, 24, of El Cajon, slammed his vehicle into a commercialized car at about 12:10 a.m. The Uber driver and his sole passenger sustained injuries in the tragic collision, which happened on Interstate 8, just east of Baltimore Drive.
Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was behind the wheel of a 2009 Cadillac CTS, eastbound on I-8. The man was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2017 Honda Civic, operated by a 36 year old Uber driver, was also traveling on the same lane, in front of the Honda.
The Cadillac, coming from behind, rear-ended the Honda, pushing it off its course. The Uber driver lost control of his car as a result, causing the vehicle to roll over.
Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after and found the commercial motorist down with major injuries. His 22-year-old female passenger, who police believe was not using a seatbelt, sustained only minor injuries. They transported them to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Stephen Briseno emerged from the wreck unhurt. Detectives determined the man showed signs of impairment, leading to his arrest. He remains held at the San Diego Jail, with a bail set at $100,000. He will be arraigned on May 29 and would require the legal representation of a drunk driving attorney.
