The accident that killed 44-year-old Adolfo Corral and 44-year-old Mary Jane Becerra Corral occurred on the evening of Sunday, February 9, on Cathedral Oaks. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office had the road closed from Winchester Canyon to Brandon while they investigated the accident.
The original story reported that the Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident. When they arrived, one of the victims had already died and the other was then transported with serious injuries.
Updates later that evening confirmed that the victim that was taken to the hospital had succumbed to their injuries as well. The police were still on the scene investigating the accident. The vehicle that struck the couple was left at the scene and they believed that the perpetrator had taken off on foot.
The driver of the vehicle was described to be a tall man with a slender build. He was described to have facial hair and wearing a black hooded jacket.
Hours after the update was released about the search for the man responsible, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff brought a man into custody they believe to be involved in the hit-and-run accident that killed the two pedestrians.
Deputies were able to track down 39-year-old Eric Mauricio Ramirez Aguilar at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. He was in a vehicle in Carpenteria.
The deputies stopped the car and took Aguilar into custody. They do not believe that the driver of the vehicle that Aguilar was a passenger in was involved in the hit-and-run accident.
