A 63-year-old man, Humberto Ramirez Molina, died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Colorado City, Texas, on Wednesday, May 6. Accident reports state that the crash also involved a Mississippi woman, Shadyne Santrice Pittman, from Hattiesburg, who is recovering in the hospital.
Reports from the Department of Public Safety revealed that the crash happened at about 11 a.m. and involved a semi-truck and Pittman’s vehicle. The semi-truck was heading west on Interstate 20, while the woman was going in the opposite direction. Molina, who was behind the wheels of the truck, veered into the median and the lanes on the opposite side of the road.
Pittman’s vehicle hit the semi-truck when it came into her lane. The truck went on to hit a ditch before rolling over and ejecting Molina. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced him dead. The Department of Public Safety said that he wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
They also discovered that a defective front tire might have played a role in the accident. Paramedics applied first-aid treatment on Pittman, before taking her to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where she continues to receive treatment for the severe injuries she sustained.
Accident reports show that many drivers do not use seat belts when driving, thus putting themselves at risk when accidents occur. Authorities have made it compulsory for drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts when driving to secure against harmful movements that may occur during a collision.
