The tragic victim in an all-terrain vehicle crash that took place on March 28, Saturday, has now been identified. Details shared by the authorities in the released accident reports have identified the victim as Joseph Allen “Joe” Cross, 28, of Browning.

The incident took place in the Schuyler County of Illinois on Saturday. Cross was riding an ATV with another person who has since been identified as Allie Schenk, 19, of Browning. Schenk was driving the ATV at the time while Cross sat next to her as a passenger.

According to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the ATV appeared to have lost control of the vehicle. The ATV then overturned and landed on top of Cross, causing him critical injuries. As help and rescue personnel arrived on the scene, Cross was rushed to the Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. However, he couldn’t recover from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital later on Saturday.

Cross was a former student at the Brown County High School. He graduated from the school back in 2010 and also remained a part of the school’s football team.

Preliminary investigations into the incident revealed that the driver of the ATV was at fault. Schuyler County Attorney’s Office has also determined that Schenk was driving under the influence when the accident took place.

Following these findings, a number of charges have been brought up against Schenk by the Attorney’s Office. These include reckless operation of an ATV, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving under the influence. Updates about the incident will be shared once more accident reports become available.
